Better late than never, here's the Lost & Found from Demodays 2011. If you recognize these items as your stuff, contact us and we'll discuss how you can get them back. (1) A bunch of pullovers (1x white, 1x green branded DNGR, 1x black; all sized 2XL) - (2) shorts (colors grey/beige, unknown size) - (3) an old, used-to-be-white, towel. We'll keep the stuff here for a while and will give these things to charity in a couple of months. Click to enlarge.
The guys from Calodox surprised us with a present on occasion of the 20th edition of Demodays/Buenzli this year. Their demo "Please Don't", which ranked 3rd in the competition, was dedicated to us for the continous organizing of the event. Thanks mates, we are more than honoured! The demo runs on MacOS and we finally managed to make a video capture of it. Download original executable - View on YouTube
Demodays 2011 are history and we had a very great time together with our visitors. We want to thank everybody that was there, contributed to the competitions, watched the demoshows; we would like to thank our partners and especially our location, the Schützi in Olten, which was simply awesome. For everything that's left from that much too short weekend, we have created the After the Party page - with photos, videos, reports, releases and more. Supply your content and we'll add it to the list. Thanks again, for Demodays 2011. We'll be back!
If you're lost on your way to Olten, just call our hotline at +41622127554 and we'll help you out. The hotline will be in action starting on Friday, Noon. To find you way to the party place, be sure to use your navigation gear or print some maps. All travel information is here.
See you this weekend at the Demodays, we're looking forward to make your weekend rock.
Have you seen our invitation demo? The soundtrack by Netpoet is quite an earworm and that's why we are introducing the Theme Remix Competition. The goal: Create a great music track out of the sample provided in the sample pack (or using your own samples). Read more about this on our competition page.
We are happy to announce that Demodays 2011 is the first official Scenepoints⢠certified party. Every visitor buying a three-day-ticket (full ticket) will be awarded with his first 10 Scenepoints⢠. You can use your Scenepoints⢠at our bistro and get your first reward! Exchange 10 Scenepoints⢠(once per person) for one piece of fine meat, sponsored by Echtzeit on occassion of the 20th edition of the Swiss demoparty series. We will have a huge bbq, so don't miss it!
Perhaps you have already seen that our entrance tickets in Euro are a bit more expensive than last year. While we are extremely sorry about the sucky conversion rate, we can't do much about it - except one thing: Showing our appreciation for visitors coming from far away we establish a long distance discount that applies for journey longer than 700km (as the crow flies). But that's not all yet, we also want to make it a bit more affordable for students to visit the Demodays. In consequence, we now have a students discount too. To apply for one of these discounts, please contact us in advance. We're so looking forward to seeing all of you!
At the Evoke 2011 party, we have released the official Demodays 2011 Invitation called "My Buenzli". The Demo features a great soundtrack to sing-along by Netpoet. The visuals were made by Psykon/Mercury and coded by Pro/Nuance. It's less than two weeks to Demodays 2011 - feel invited to visit our party! Download the executable from scene.org or view the HD video capture on YouTube.
Better late than never: We finally decided on the specs of our competition hardware. We'll have two PC systems available - and as always: If the specs don't fit you, you can bring your own hardware, too. See our competition hardware specifications.
As requested, we managed to bring an IRC channel for the Demodays online (thank you, Gilligan). Connect to IRCnet and join the crowd in the channel #demodays (for example using this webchat) to talk about the Demodays, organize rides and everything else related to our event.
No demoparty without proper live acts: Demodays presents Ultrasyd (Friday evening) and Restless Leg Syndrome (Saturday), live on stage with pumping music for you to listen, enjoy and dance.
Ultrasyd, a retro-gaming lover and demoscene enthusiast since early 00s, started to compose chiptunes accidentally in 2009 when he decided to get himself a collection of old computers and video-game systems for the sake of nostalgia. Since then, he has been eating chip for breakfast, and now delivers a mix of entertaining beats, energetic basses and sweet melodies. He has a particular affection for the flavour of computers such as Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and C64, but doesnât mind playing the Game Boy or composing electronic music with modern sequencers from time to time. Ultrasyd's gonna shake you on Friday, following the opening speech.
The guys from Restless Leg Syndrome are hardcore demoscene passivists and love to get active at the Demodays. The combo consists of Atombrot (who has previously played at Buenzli), Ox1d and Satelite Jack. For the Demodays gig, they might even go ahead and do psy remixes of famous demo soundtrack. They'll make you move on Saturday, between Demo-Night Part II and III.
Pixels are invading the Demodays! Straight from Genoz/Vantage's secret labs, the PixelInvaders live installation will be present at the Demodays for you to play, watch and enjoy. Here's what the creator writes about his project: The «PixelInvaders» LED system consists of 3D RGB LED panels, which playback real-time generated video animations or simple color change. Multiple PixelInvaders panel can be connected with each other to form a panel of any size. The panels are based on the latest LED technology - besides low heat dissipation and long life a panel may illuminate an entire room - and consume less energy than a standard light bulb! Read more about this at http://www.pixelinvaders.ch.
At Demodays, we gonna have a two-panel installation running all three days. This and other Demodays features are found on our Features Page.
Since 2003 we are offering a great discount for those who love demopartying: The Evoke demoparty in Cologne and Demodays in Olten bring you the Combined Ticket. We will provide a nice discount for those who visit both Evoke and Demodays this year. Just buy the Combined Ticket at Evoke for both parties and get a 5 Euro discount (the price for Demodays in Euro has not been disclosed yet).
Update: The price for the combined ticket will be 75 Euro (instead of approx. 80 Euro, depending on the exchange rate)
It's all new about our competitions: We bring you a fresh categorization and two thrilling new competitions - all of that to keep things interesting at a small party like ours. For the first time, you can take part in the new Mini-Animation compo, where it's your job to create a 10 seconds animation (without music) that will be looped for 1 minute. No time to produce a full-fledged animation entry? Mini-Animation allows you to show your skills in less time. For the species of photo addicts, there's the new Photo Retouching competition: We decided against a pure photo compo and want to see your retouching skills - show what you can do best!
Because we lacked entries in some categories in past years, we have given a good shaking to our competitions. We're combining everything into a few single categories no matter whether it's oldschool or newschool, hardware hack or software masterpiece: The new competitions are called Realtime Demo, Realtime Size-Limited, Non-Realtime and Interactive. Read all about this new schema (and the voting mode coming with it) on our competitions page.
We'll finally have a decent barbecue at our event. We'll have plenty of outside space and we will give you a grill to heat your meat. There's absolutely no need to bring your own grill to the party. Also, there's not much need to bring your own meat (unless you're very hungry): Echtzeit, the organizers of the Demodays, give away a good piece of meat with every three-day entrance ticket (while supplies last) and you'll be able to buy more meat at our bar (also, while supplies last). This is our way to celebrate the 20st edition of Buenzli! You do absolutely not want to miss this!
After you had a fine piece of meat and a few drinks, you wonder where to sleep? We have sleeping space at the party place (it will be tight, though) and we made up a few special deals with hotels near by. Check out our hotels page. In the town, all hotels are in 10 to 15 minute walking distance to the party place, so you can go for any of them. Hurry up with the discounted rooms, we've got only a few.
At this Demodays/Buenzli, we're going to show a lot of demos. But we realized one thing: We need quality suggestions from a lot of different people with a lot of different tastes. This is why we ask you kindly to enter your personal suggestions. We have prepared a few topics/blocks of demos that we would like to show during the party and you could help us fill the blocks.
Help us using the Suggest-A-Demo-Tron-X 2000
Pick your favourite demos for a certain category, add title and group, a link to the demo and your name (so that we can properly credit you) and hit save. Also, you can see the whole list of what people have suggested so far. We're sure you can add one more :-) If you have a suggestion for another category, or if you want to prepare a special show on your own, that's awesome. Contact us about it!
Here we are! Welcome to the web site of the demodays 2011 (also known as Buenzli 20). We launched the website pretty late, but that also means we already have most of the content ready for you. Plan your stay using the event schedule and prepare to take part in our competitions. To guarantee the best possible experience we had to establish rules, please read them carefully. Are you a first-time visitor? Here's the FAQ.
Since Buenzli 19, we have been asked by a lot of people about our new location - and now we’re reliefed, happy and proud to be able to unveil the first details. Buenzli 20 will take place on the 26/27/28 August 2011 in Olten/Switzerland. Our new location is called "Schützi", a stand-alone building in the middle of the city.
The place is a cultural/arts center, usually being used for concerts, parties and other happenings. We’ll give you more details as soon as we catch up with the planning. In the meantime make sure to reserve the date and see where Olten is located (it’s actually easily reachable by train and car).
We will come up with everything you need to know about our celebration party in the coming weeks. Until then, do not hesitate to contact us in case of questions about anything concerned Buenzli 20.
At Buenzli 19 we announced the change of location for Buenzli 20. Now that we slowly start organizing things again, we felt that it was time to gather some feedback from our past, current and future visitors. We would like to know about your relationship with Buenzli, what features you think are needed and how good or bad we performed up to now. We know your time is precious and greatly appreciate your willingness to participate in our survey. The survey is located at http://www.buenz.li/pages/survey19.html.
The announcement jingle from Buenzli 19 by Nooly are now available for download. You can either get the long version or the short version (or both, of course). Thank you Nooly for these pieces, they rocked the party place!
The OHP demos from Buenzli 19 are finally available: The winner production Videofax by Cortex (YouTube) as well as Winne Tour by Alcatraz (YouTube). After a while, the videos will also be available on scene.org. Thanks again to both competitors for keeping this competition category alive!
Use our one-stop after-the-party information page for everything that’s there, now that Buenzli 19 is over: results, releases, photos, reports… If you got something like a report or photos on your own, maybe even have an online gallery, just tell us about it and we’ll add it.
It was a wonderful weekend: Sunny days, more than 120 visitors (three-days and compo-watcher), a good load of releases, live acts and a perfectly friendly atmosphere. Thanks for being there, thanks for watching us on the stream, thanks for contributing and thanks for believing in Buenzli! We’ll keep you up to date about releases, photos and reports. We will be back next year, in a new location, with new ideas, new features and the same powerful organizing team.
BUENZLI 19 live outta Winterthur on demoscene.tv! Can’t come to the party place, because you’re too far away? (Everything not related to travel distance is not a good excuse for not coming ;-)) Anyway, if you’re can’t be here, be sure to follow us on famous demoscene internet tv station.
Because of the said circumstances, we have to give you a new hotline number: +41796599874. Please only use it in emergency cases.
We are at the party place, building up the site for you. This also brings a few news items and changes for those that are planning to visit us this weekend.
First of all, there’s still the same car detour as last year (which means, that our travelling guide is a bit wrong in the end). Generally, you can always fillow the direction to "Museum" or "Kirchgemeindehaus", the street will lead you along the Buenzli location. Check this map for a bird’s view on the detour. In case of troubles and you feeling lost, just call our hotline.
Further, we have a bit of a delicate situation here, since the rest of the location building is booked, too. We kindly ask you to follow the special rule tweaks we have to apply (see more at the party place, slides). Thank you!
And now: Back to work - we’re opening the party in 7 hours :-)
Are you still unsure whether to come to Buenzli or not? If so, the following information might make you come: This might very well be the last Buenzli at the current location. The church organ, the landmarked building, the gallery and of course the parquet floor. Come to Buenzli 19 to see it for the last time. We try hard to make it possible to come back to the same location again, but the circumstances might prevent this. So, take you chance to see the classic Buenzli again or be back for everything new at Buenzli 20 :-)
Our friends from the other side of the world organize a shadow party! Read more about it at the @party and Bocoup Buenzli Shadow Party event page (and Facebook). So, all the US demosceners in reach of Boston - go and have fun at the The Bocoup Loft. It’s great to have you with us on the stream. Have fun, and be sure to take part in our competitions the remote way.
It’s only three days left to Buenzli 19! All the team has entered the heavy preparation phase and we’ll leave to the party place on Thursday. We can imagine you’re planning your trip too, so make sure you check out our travelling guides. In case you still can’t find your way, of you get otherwise in trouble, call us on our hotline number: +41 52 202 4685 (available from Friday morning). Also, in case of questions, contact us here, on Facebook, Twitter, Pouet… we’ll gladly assist you.
The weather forecast looks excellent for the Buenzli 19 weekend - sun, fun and demos. Keep yourself up to date about the weather at meteo24.ch.
Evoke might be one week after Buenzli this year, but this doesn’t stop us from giving you twice the fun for not quite twice the price: If you plan to go to Buenzli as well as Evoke, you should buy the infamous "Combined Ticket". For only 65 Euros (instead of 70) you’ll be able to enjoy the compos of Evoke and Buenzli back to back.
So, if you are man enough to try this, mention that you would like to buy a combined ticket at the Buenzli infodesk and have your cash ready. One week later, at the Evoke infodesk you show your Buenzli bracelet and the ticket and you’re in. That’s it!
If you were not yet planning to go to Buenzli and Evoke, isn’t this reason enough to think it over?!
For quite a long time, this has been a special feature of Buenzli and we’re back with it. The PCP.CH Jury Prize! The generous team at PCP.CH provides us with a fine ASUS EeePC 900AX (in stylish black) that will be given away to the best production of Buenzli 19 as defined by the independent jury.
How does it work? Every production released in a competition at Buenzli 19 is a candidate for the prize. That alone should be reason enough to release your production at Buenzli. The jury will be formed before the competition night, consisting of 7 - 9 people from all over Europe with differenty ideas and experience in demo-making. The jury speaker unveils the name of the PCP.CH Jury Prize winner live during the prizegiving.(Please note: remote entries are not eligible for the jury prize)
The prize was made possible with the PCP.CH PC Konfigurator.
