News in August 2011
Thanks a lot to everyone (the other organizers, our partners, live acts, visitors and those who contribute in the compos) for making this one of the best Evoke editions in history: 2011 will be a great year to remember!
We will add more great stuff from Evoke 2011 within the next days.Â
Better late than never: We finally decided on the specs of our competition hardware. We'll have two PC systems available - and as always: If the specs don't fit you, you can bring your own hardware, too. See our competition hardware specifications.
As requested, we managed to bring an IRC channel for the Demodays online (thank you, Gilligan). Connect to IRCnet and join the crowd in the channel #demodays (for example using this webchat) to talk about the Demodays, organize rides and everything else related to our event.
Only one day left - and we can announce some more DJs from Cologne that will make your stay more enjoyable. On Friday, DNKR and Dipswitch from Basspräsidium Records will spin some dubby bass vibes, and during Saturday, Brian de la Cruz and Jens3n will play some minimal and house for you. And don't forget that there are also DJ Storno and glxblt to look forward to! See here for more info on Evoke's musical programme. By the way, some copies of the new Basspräsidium 12" compilation (featuring dipswitch & DNKR) will be there to win in the music compos - so go and finish your tunes!
We are partnering with the Jena/Germany based filmfestival cellu l'art. The cellu l'art Short Film Festival is heading towards its 12th edition this year. From April 12th to 17th they are going to present short films in the international competition. This year they will also accept demos.
When you submit your demo or intro to the Evoke competitions you will have the choice to automatically submit your contribution to the cellu l'art festival. All you need to do is to tick a checkbox.
Louie / TBL presents a detailed overview of the new lighting system implemented in DICEs Frostbite 2 engine and how it enables us to stretch the boundaries of lighting in BATTLEFIELD 3 with its highly dynamic, varied and destructible environments. Louie will discuss the technical implementation of the art direction in BATTLEFIELD 3, the workflows we created for it as well as how all the individual lighting components fit together: deferred rendering, HDR, dynamic radiosity and particle lighting.
Join the seminar on Evoke and learn something while waiting for the compos to start!
No demoparty without proper live acts: Demodays presents Ultrasyd (Friday evening) and Restless Leg Syndrome (Saturday), live on stage with pumping music for you to listen, enjoy and dance.
Ultrasyd, a retro-gaming lover and demoscene enthusiast since early 00s, started to compose chiptunes accidentally in 2009 when he decided to get himself a collection of old computers and video-game systems for the sake of nostalgia. Since then, he has been eating chip for breakfast, and now delivers a mix of entertaining beats, energetic basses and sweet melodies. He has a particular affection for the flavour of computers such as Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and C64, but doesnât mind playing the Game Boy or composing electronic music with modern sequencers from time to time. Ultrasyd's gonna shake you on Friday, following the opening speech.
The guys from Restless Leg Syndrome are hardcore demoscene passivists and love to get active at the Demodays. The combo consists of Atombrot (who has previously played at Buenzli), Ox1d and Satelite Jack. For the Demodays gig, they might even go ahead and do psy remixes of famous demo soundtrack. They'll make you move on Saturday, between Demo-Night Part II and III.
We are glad to announce that our friends from DG-i are sponsoring this years Evoke. They not only support Evoke finacially but also understand what makes Evoke so special. That is why they decided to enhance on of Evoke's features: the BBQ. There will be free sausages for everyone at the DG-i BBQ.Â
Thank you very much DG-i.
If you are younger than 18 and consider to visit Evoke, then please note that we highly appreciate that, but because of legal issues, we can not let you into the party place without a declaration of consent filled out by your parents. Please get in touch with us and we'll provide you with the necessary info.
Pixels are invading the Demodays! Straight from Genoz/Vantage's secret labs, the PixelInvaders live installation will be present at the Demodays for you to play, watch and enjoy. Here's what the creator writes about his project: The «PixelInvaders» LED system consists of 3D RGB LED panels, which playback real-time generated video animations or simple color change. Multiple PixelInvaders panel can be connected with each other to form a panel of any size. The panels are based on the latest LED technology - besides low heat dissipation and long life a panel may illuminate an entire room - and consume less energy than a standard light bulb! Read more about this at http://www.pixelinvaders.ch.
At Demodays, we gonna have a two-panel installation running all three days. This and other Demodays features are found on our Features Page.
