As an organizing team we would like to thank everyone who made Evoke 2018 possible: all the nice visitors, those who contributed to the competitions, the mind blowing live acts and inspiring speakers!
Evoke 2019 is already scheduled: mark the 16th to 18th of August in your calendar.
Meanwhile we would like to see you again at one of the other great demoparties. And thanks again for another great edition of Evoke!
Everything is build up, the first visitors are paying their entrance fee: Evoke 2018 is live!
If you would like to follow the party we have set up a live coverage page for your pleasure.
This year we will stream our events with twitch (in cooperation with SceneSat). Beneath that we have some official twittering by us plus your thought on the party (use the #evoke2018 hashtag). In addition the page features the upcoming events from the timetable plus #evoke2018 photos from Instagram.
And don't forget to add our ical calendar to your favorite calendaring software to keep up with what is happening at Evoke. We will try our best to update it when bigger delays should occur.
Already on your trip to Evoke? Just arrived at the party place? Making progress on your release? Let the world know!
Posts and images tagged this way might show up on our social media wall (the small screen on the right side of the main screen). So do posts to the pouet oneliner (find out) or to our irc channel.
In recent years Evoke has had issues with scaling the bandwidth for our Internet connection; the venue has only been able to deliver a single 2 Mbit/s connection. Luckily, we've been getting help from Viprinet, who has been able to combine all available LTE networks into single faster one, giving us a way better internet connection so far. If it hadn't been for their help, all Evoke visitors would have had to share the same 2 Mbit/s connection!
But this year the Evoke location, AbenteuerhallenKalk, has finally been connected to Netcologne's fiber network, providing us with a much faster connection. But the good news don't stop here... Netcologne has also stepped up as a sponsor, and has decided to splice in a few additional fiber cables, and bumping Evoke's internet connection up to a massive 1 Gbit/s!
So this year we will hook up that 1 Gigabit to the Viprinet setup for extra redundancy.
To make a long story short: Everyone should be excited about that extra bandwidth that we got through being hooked up to Netcologne's Corporate/Giga network.
Thanks a lot Netcologne.
Team HarikaZen will be back at Evoke 2018 for their 5 year anniversary! Make sure to visit their little corner of the Evoke heaven to check out some new fresh stuff from the team.
The deal stays the same as always:
- Participate in one of the graphics competition categories Ansi/Ascii and/or Pixel, and have the chance to win a voucher for a t-shirt.
You can claim your prize either at the party place (while stock lasts), or online through their webshop.
- For everyone else: The code EVOKE2018 gives you 15% off your order at shop.harikazen.com. This promotion is valid throughout 17th - 21st of August 2018.
For owners of one of our first t-shirts, we have a special surprise - you got to be sporting your shirt to be admissible for this special. Come by their party table to check out their new stuff or just for a chat. Two new designs and several new variations upon two of their classics will be available for the first time at the party!
This years trophies for the competition winners will be as unique as their releases. Sensenstahl teamed up with Chunna and Der Andere and together that came up with the design for our one of a kind trophies.
Do you remember Sensenstahl's Revision release "Blocker"? The Evoke trophies are made the same way but this time everything is made out of marble.
Tropical Trevor will show us some insights about how Poo-Brain made their price-winning 64k demos. He will live showcase the tool "SrqMelon", that he built for making the demos. The tool is meanwhile open-source, so joining this seminar will be a good invest for all the people who want to make demos.
As Evoke 2018 is just a few days ahead, we can present you today with the complete musical programme. In addition to the acts we announced during the previous weeks, we'll have local bass music DJ Bassador, demoscene veteran DJefke, and Evoke residents Black Maiden Hi-Fi shaking your heads and feet. See you in a couple of days!
Evoke 2018 will have everything your BBQ needs. Here are artists making snacking the wurst or the beer or the bread with veggie inside much, much more fun.
The music session is a Cologne artist exploration. The music stage will be pleased by Nodepond doing just the right amount of weirdness, Damian T. Dziwis exploring music and code with one line of code, you will love. After that, Eric Svensen will take on and prepare this still young Saturday close to a techno explosion before compo time!
Take me to the events.
We are very happy to announce our musical headliner for the compo night: Wintermute from Leipzig/Germany, a renown drum'n'bass DJ and producer who released on some of the scene's biggest labels such as Blackout Music and Cause4Concern, but also on the demoscene-related netlabel NoSYS Productions. Expect a set of techno- and soul-influenced drum and bass, meandering between high-tech funk and ambient explorations. Read more info on Wintermute here.
Demos are made for the big screen! And that’s why we will bring you a highly curated list of demos to show.
This years demoshow has a special place. Right between the semi-finals and the final of the Shadershowdown.
Recovering from the first round, getting ready for the finals, recover and get hyped for fridays highlight by watching a demo, having a beer!
You can expect a mixed bag of demos: brand new, top of the class, forgotten ones and hidden gems.
After last year’s success faxe and dino decided to do a pre evoke stream again. To get hyped for this year’s edition we invite you to watch the highlight of our 20th birthday again. Join us on Twitch [https://www.twitch.tv/evoke] Sunday the 12th of August at 20:00 CEST. Let’s hang out in chat, have fun, share memories and get ready for evoke 2018 together.
We're happy to announce our music opener for Friday night: Turboanalisis from the Netherlands will present Turbo auf den Turbo! Expect a crazy glitch electro mash-up set, in which he will, as he writes himself, "embrace old and outdated songs, ... update, tweak and remix them until something awesome happens." We're sure that a lot of awesomeness will happen indeed. In other news, we made a small update to the ANSI/ASCII compo rules in order to clarify a few details.
Hellfire and Noname from Haujobb will share some insights about coding for the Amiga in this Seminar. Based on their experience of jointly creating several Amiga AGA over the years, like the "Beam Riders" demo, they will tell you how they did it and share some tricks of the trade with you
This talk will cover different aspects of the toolchain, such as coding and testing on PC, syncing with Rocket, and compiling for and profiling on Amiga. It is basically a "Beam Riders" making-of, so be there to learn about this incredible demo and how they made it.
Topy44 does it again and organizes another preparty to Evoke at the Chaos Computer Club Cologne on the Thursday (August, 16th) before.
For the seventh time there will be beers, demos and a place to crash if you want to stay the night. There might even be a few Evoke organizers to show up later at night.
In this year's tracked music compo, we decided to honour a PC demoscene classic: the soundtrack from Halcyon’s “Da Clone” (1995) – an example of particularly clever usage of just three samples. The remix compo is endorsed by the original composer, Croaker/Halcyon. Read the full rules and download the original track here.
Here's some good news for those who have been curious about who will play at Evoke this time. We are proud to present our first live act for Friday night: Zabutom from Sweden, a well-known self-described "post-chiptune musician", who collaborated with groups like Fairlight and Up Rough, and had his music released by labels such as Data Airlines and 8bitpeoples, will perform a live set of spaced out, melodic electronica with early IDM, chiptune and demoscene vibes.
SHADER SHOWDOWN @ EVOKE 2018
We're proud to announce that the 4th tournament of the Shader Showdown European Tour will take place later this summer at Evoke demoparty in Cologne, Germany.
Four competitors will be invited to compete for a live 1-on-1 shadercoding tournament. Four coders enter, one coder leaves!
The Showdown will take a bit of a different turn, as it will be held not on stage but in a dedicated area next to Evokes "cozy bar" which will sure as hell become a boiler room – both for the participants and the spectators. So the first rule about Shader Showdown at Evoke is...you actually do talk about Shader Showdown.
At Evoke and unlike previous Showdowns, all the battles in the tournament will be fought in a single session on Friday evening, August 17th, 2018.
If you'd like to volunteer for this competition, please send a mail to "havoc at outlinedemoparty.nl" and we'll add you to the list from which the Evoke orgas will select 4 coders who shall be invited to compete in Cologne.
Let the games begin!
With that information available we start the deinetickets.de presale today!
And just like the last years: it´s perfectly fine to pay the entrance fee at the door. Presale ticket owners will not have any privileges. You decide what is most convenient for you!
Finally here they are: the 2018 compo rules.
Minor tweaks have been done to some compos but let's outline the major differences:
- If you would like to part in the pixel graphic competition you should take a look at this year's palette. It looks a lot like the one from pico 8. Damn. It even is!
- In addition to that we would like to give the ansi / ascii compo a new spin: we will limit the height to one screen. At least for this year! Try to cramp all your creativity into those 25 lines.
Beneath that the tracker music compo rules are still missing. We will add them rather sooner than later!
With all of this information: start finishing your productions! Of drop us a note in case of questions!
This year at Evoke we give seminar opportunities to everyone!
We are calling for: Lightning Seminars!
The rule is simple: You have discovered something interesting? Some tiny little detail or a big one, where you think: Yeap! That is something for Evoke. This might be stuff like: Just one thing (you made, explored...)
So nice. Then hand it over to Evoke!
We are searching for contributions for about 5-20 Minutes, that are suitable for a sort of mini-seminar. We will have some of them in a row.
Put your pitches or thoughts using our contact form ...and don't worry. We will take care of it. So better send than to be sorry!
Pure and simple demoscene fun will happen again in Cologne this year! Meet us and all of your friends at AbenteuerHallen Kalk during the mid of August (17th to 19th to be precise).
Setting up the website took a little bit longer but we are finally online. Quite a lot of information is still missing at the moment but we will add them very soonish. To keep up with those news stick to out newsletter, twitter or simply come back often.
Meanwhile you may register yourself so that we, your group mates and friends know that you are planning to come!
